Our longest driving day today at over 6 hours. We need to get from the northeast corner to the northwest for our push south tomorrow.
Our day starts off sunny with ‘mostly’ calm conditions, but this changes as soon as we find the hills again.

Aside from lunch, our first real stop is the village of Arnarstapi. This place is wild, you can really tell that it was created out of lava.

Bárður Snæfellsás – a half-man, half-troll guardian of the peninsula
Back in the 17th & 18th centuries this place was a bustling fishing harbour port and trading place. But now known more for the landscape, birds, and the statue of Bárður Snæfellsás.

Kittiwakes on the cliff sides

Then to Búðakirkja, or the black church. Built in the mid-1800s and in the middle of a…you guessed it…lava field. Next to the church is the graveyard protected by the most vocal sheep we’ve encountered!

A day here wouldn’t be complete without seeing a waterfall and so we stop at Kirkjufells waterfall. Turns out – it was also in Game of Thrones!
