Today we are helping Sweden celebrate their midsummer festivities. And the city is…well…where are they?!

It’s not until we get to Slottsskogen park that we find the entire city. Families, friends, young and old, everyone is here. Some even brought their own grills! Wish we could do that at home.

Things kick off at 3:00 with a pair of folk singers that remind me of what it would be like in the early 70s…but in Sweden. To double down they even sang Country Roads by John Denver…in Swedish!
They sing for an hour, some melodies we recognize, most we don’t. But they have the crowd raring to go and wanting more.
A new band is now on stage for the main show. We turn our focus and attention on the pole adorned with flowers as everyone starts gathering in a circle. They start us off with playing Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes – this must be to limber us up for the remaining two hours of dancing.

Though we have no idea what the instructions are, or how the dances go, we give it our best! We join hands with the others, circle left and circle right when they do. We approach the pole and back away on que.
We ‘fake it – till we make it’ like the best of them!

All of this dancing under the hottest sun we have had since arriving in Scandinavia has made us hunt down a well deserved ice cream.
