After two days of beautiful sunshine and high temperatures, we woke up to the cold and the rain. We could let this ruin our day OR we could double down. Yep, when things get cold, we get colder.

We had heard of an ice cave only a few minutes from our campground. Of course we had to go check it out.

What we did not know was that it was a themed cave. An artificially built underground cave that has been filled with ice and snow and kept at a constant -5*C. The theme? Moomins.

Being from Canada, we are not well versed in the Finnish phenomenon of Moomin. They are a family of white, round fairy-tale characters with large snouts that make them resemble the hippo but are actually trolls. Children’s books, comics, movies and all kinds of merchandise have been created and sold over decades. Needless to say, we were the only adults there without children.

That’s okay though, we acted like children instead.
