¡Hola México!

¡Hola México!

We’re doing it! We’re finally seeing Mexico – not just a pool that just happens to be in Mexico.

Up and at ‘em at 4:30am today. And really the only good reason to be up at that hour is to head to the airport.

Our first stop is Cancun. We’ve been here before…sort of, to stay at a resort. But this time we’re renting a car. And even though I’ve driven in Italy, Spain, Greece – Mexico seems to be intimidating me.

They’ve given us a brand new car, only 37 kms on it…great…(eye roll). I think I was hoping for an old banged up beater of a car. One where you wouldn’t notice new dings or a scratch on it. I’m sure we’ll be fine.

So, down the highway we go to Playa del Carmen – and in just under 45 minutes we’re at our hotel for the night. I’m scared to say it…things are going smoothly for us today.

Check in goes easy, and now time for REAL Mexican food. Wouldn’t you know it, a highly recommended place is a mere 2 blocks away. And yes, AMAZING! Just what we wanted to kickoff this adventure.

But. They don’t serve margaritas here, only smoothies. Wtf?! don’t get me wrong, the smoothies are delicious, but we need tequila. lol

Google helps us find just the place, Alux. This restaurant and bar is underground in a cenote. It’s so cool, if you don’t mind sharing the space with the resident bats.

Early start, easy check in, smooth flight, no line at customs, both our bags made it with us, brand new car, decent hotel, then great food plus awesome drinks in an uber cool spot.

What a great Day 1!
