Cinnamon Buns, Dog Scritches and Vikings

Well, it was a rainy day today. Luckily there were no hikes scheduled. Phew. Truth be told, I’m not sure our quads could have taken another hike today…

In a surfing village on the northwest coast is a coffee shop known for its cinnamon buns. You don’t need to tell us twice! We didn’t see anybody surfing, but we did catch a couple of people swimming. Or at least making a mad dash in and out of the water. Brrrrrr.

The cinnamon buns did not disappoint – ooey and gooey, chewy and sugar crusted, still warm from the oven and as big as our face. The perfect way to spend a rainy morning. As an added bonus, the local dog chose us as his personal petters. It made us miss Jameson even more.

We saw the Danish Viking Museum, now it is time to see the Norwegian take on them. A farmer was minding his own business, plowing his land when he discovered some artifacts in 1981. This sight is home to the remains of the largest longhouse ever discovered, as a result, for the next decade, his land became an archeological dig sight. It has now been turned into a huge living museum with a replica of the longhouse, replica Viking boats and tours and countless artifacts.

Our last day in Finland gets us to the Arctic Circle (brrr) and Santa's Village. I know, I know, we're not at THE North Pole, but I could be convinced that this really is Santa's Village. Or maybe it is just his summer home. If this is Santa's summer getaway...he must...

Ice Ice Baby

After two days of beautiful sunshine and high temperatures, we woke up to the cold and the rain. We could let this ruin our day OR we could double down. Yep, when things get cold, we get colder. Walking through a giant igloo! We had heard of an ice cave only a few...
