Some days you wake up and wish you had planned ahead, some days you wake up and wish you hadn’t already made plans. Today started off in that second bucket. I don’t know about the rest of you, but we typically don’t enjoy doing outdoor water sports when it is 6 degrees and rainy.

But that is exactly what we had already signed up for. A 4km kayak in the fjords followed by an 8km hike. In the rain. In the clouds. In the cold. Sigh. I guess we could cancel – but where’s the fun in that??

So we put on our big girl panties and got to it.
I am so glad we did! Our guide had the most amazing dry suits for us which kept us warm and dry. There was no wind, so paddling was actually enjoyable and even though the valley was socked in, we got to experience the fjords in such a moody and mysterious setting. It was spectacular.

Instead of going on our hike (we wouldn’t have been able to see anything because of the cloud cover) we decided to keep kayaking. In the end, we did a respectable 12km. Not bad at all if I do say so myself.
Once back at the beginning, Torunn convinced us to go into the glacial water and bob along like sea otters. OMG. Hilarious.

We are learning…slowly, but surely…that weather does not need to drastically change our plans. We just need to get out there and make the best of it.
And now, we are anxiously watching the Canada v Switzerland World Cup match. GO CANADA GO!!!
