Could you resist the chance at getting a dose of Elvis Presley? We certainly couldn’t. When I learned about the Memphis Mansion – well, I just knew we had to make our way up to Randers, Denmark. Luckily, Denmark is a small country so it wasn’t too far of a drive out of our way.

Just inside the gates there is an exact replica of Elvis’ birth house – wow, tiny! No kitchen, no running water, no bathroom. A shotgun house at its core.

Inside the mansion itself – which is twice the size of Graceland – is a museum filled with all things Elvis, including many rare and original items. I can’t say we learned anything new, but that wasn’t the point. It was just nice to get an Elvis fix. He’s a hunka hunka burnin’ luv.

On the way out, we were also treated to a Johnny Cash museum. That guy was so interesting!!

After lunch at a Chinese buffet we decided we would have enough time to visit the Tollund Man. We had to skip it a couple of days ago because we truly just ran out of time.

I am so glad we were able to make the time – it was fascinating!! This man died by hanging (likely as a sacrifice, not for a crime) and was buried in the peat bogs sometime between 400 and 380 BC!!! What?!? That means he was around at the same time as Socrates.

To see how preserved this guy was – wow. You could see his whiskers! On display is the real head (which has now been preserved with oils and special waxes) complete with his hat and the leather rope by which he was hanged. The body is an exact replica of what and how he was discovered. The actual body was dismembered for research purposes. We even know what his last meal was before death because they were able to empty his stomach and large intestine contents. It is crazy to see this guy that lived over 2300 years ago face to face.

After this very engaging visit, it was time for us to make tracks. We now have a 5 hour drive to Copenhagen.
