There’s only one way to start off International Coffee Day, and that’s with a coffee (I’m sure lattes count too).
Our Multiday Sport Adventure has come to an end, and just in time as my legs have started to wave the white flag of surrender. We are off to now see Split for a couple of days before we begin our Bike & Barge.

Yes, you guessed it – we sign up for a walking tour through the Old Town of Split. Luke is our guide today.
It’s not the nicest day to be walking outside, but hey we’re Canadian and we’re tough. And we’ve already run into more Canadians randomly this morning. We are everywhere!
The biggest draw here by far is Diocletian’s Palace. Built by Emperor Diocletian waaaaay back in 305 AD for his retirement home, today it spans about one half of what is today’s Old Town. Unfortunately for him, he only got to enjoy it for around 7 years as he died in 312. Among his many notable achievements, he is the first Roman Emperor to abdicate the throne rather than being stabbed or poisoned.

This city has been around for a long time. They even have several artifacts from the Egyptian Empire too. At one time there were 12 sphinxes, plus several obelisks – they stand out here with their purple colour.

And a day in Split wouldn’t be complete without a few references to Game of Thrones. Many scenes were filmed here throughout the entire series. For example we came across where a big betrayal happened, many killed, and…well, I won’t spoil it for those who have somehow not watched it yet. Today it hosts classical singers working for tips, the room has incredible acoustics!

We couldn’t pass up the Game of Thrones museum!
