I got to try my hand at driving the serial killer van today – luckily, it was mostly on nice big roads and highways and only a little bit in Palma itself. We made it out alive.

Palma is the capital of Mallorca and is a great city to walk around in. We found a free walking tour map on line and proceeded to go on a scavenger hunt, trying to find all kinds of architectural wonders, cathedrals, and buildings we didn’t even know we needed to see. It kept us entertained for a couple of hours. We even managed to find a camera store and replace the broken UV filter on our camera.

There is a 100+ year old wooden train that goes from Palma to Soller in 1 hour 20 minutes and we wanted to check it out. Once we boarded, we noticed that there was a ‘first class section’ at the front of the train that nobody was going into. When we bought our tickets, there wasn’t an option to buy different classes so we decided to chance it. We walked into the car like we owned it, much to the surprise of all the passengers seated next to us. Within 3 minutes, all of the luxury seats were filled with some of those onlookers. LOL. Totally worth it – and it was absolutely allowed.

Soller is a very busy seaside town, filled with tourists like us. The streets are quaint and lined with local shops and artisans. We found another walking tour and had fun finding all the local ‘treasures’. Buildings and monuments we knew nothing about. We entertained ourselves taking pictures in front of these random places.
A wooden tram takes us to the port about 30 minutes away. Jason has been looking forward to a Paella ever since we got here, and this is the place to have it. We settled into a beautiful restaurant over looking the beach and the hordes of people enjoying the sand and water. What a great Mallorcan day!
Our next day was spent quietly lunching by the pool with some friends. And by quietly, I really mean shouting at each other as a newsworthy storm passed through and toppled planters and umbrellas. The storm was short lived, but boy oh boy, did she make herself known! A vastly different day than yesterday, but still, somehow, a very Mallorcan day.
