Korean Adventure Day 14 (on the bus)
Today is a travel day for us. And it does not involve our bikes!! We meet at 8:20 to load our bikes and paniers into the truck. Then it is off to breakfast. The easiest thing to do is go straight to the bus depot which is a short walk from the hotel.
Sang leads the group into a burger joint. Wait. What? Burgers? For breakfast? Okay…you’ve gotten us this far! An odd choice to be sure, but still a very successful meal. Score another point for Sang.
Our bus, while not the luxury premium bus we rode down to Gyeongju, is still extremely nice. Comfortable, clean and tons of leg room! It leaves promptly at 10:20am. We stop halfway through at the token rest stop which is enormous and very well equipped with any kind of food you have your heart set on. Paul, Sang and Bob bought us all kinds of delicious treats for the rest of our trip.
Interestingly, the journey through Seoul to the bus depot was almost as long as the journey from Sokcho to Seoul’s edge. There was a LOT of traffic.
From the depot we stop at the Korean Dollarama to buy large bags. It is amazing how opinionated we can be about a bag we may only ever use again for groceries!
It is then revealed that our leaders have a surprise treat in store for us. Trusting souls that we are, we follow them blindly through a maze of streets and up a stairwell. Into a Korean Dessert cafe we go!! Time for some snowflake desserts. Basically frozen yogurt shaved very finely covered in different toppings and then smothered in condensed milk. Yep. That was a successful and much appreciated treat. And to find out there are two Korean shops that make it in Calgary. Woohoo!!
Then it is to the bike shop where we unload our paniers into said bags, grab our pedals and seats and say good-bye to the bike shop.
Back to the Golden Hotel where we are reunited with our luggage. Time to do some much needed laundry before going out to dinner.
Another new experience for us as we hop on the city bus to take us to the restaurant. Ooh la la. It is fancy!
We have a delicious traditional meal yet again with beef patties, shrimp, noodles, soups and so much more. The food here just never ends.
We have an early day tomorrow and some of us still have to finish laundry (aaahhhh, clean clothes!!) so it is back to the hotel for an early night.
