It’s not very often one can claim they’ve walked across an entire country. Even less common to do it in one afternoon. We just did exactly that. All 7.4 km in a couple of hours.

Yesterday we did the rock, today we chose the sea. Or at least the land beside the sea. We were so lucky that the weather was perfect. We donned our sunglasses, put our jackets in the backpack and enjoyed the stroll.

We went through a lovely garden, a shipyard and some residential streets. We came upon a Battery that housed a 100 ton gun. It’s amazing what you learn about on a walkabout! For example, did you know that as powerful as this gun was, it took three full hours for it to become operational. The gunmen had to load the hydraulic systems, load the gun itself, aim it, then wait for the pressure to build up before they could fire it. Three hours. It doesn’t seem to be effective, does it? But, when you’re firing on ships under sail, well, I guess they don’t move out of the way very fast. War in slow motion.

At the end of the walk was Europa Point. The southernmost tip of Europe where you’ll find a cafe, a playground, an underground interpretive center, a mosque and a lighthouse.

We also found a bus to take our lazy butts back to the start.

After all, we have to get back to Spain to get some food before we start our next adventure – which will take place overnight, on a bus. I hope we sleep…
