Time to go explore Europe’s Rock. Gibraltar
I’ve always have been intrigued by this Overseas British Territory. Just on the edge of Spain, dipping into the Med. Why is it there? Will it be like visiting the UK?
The hotel we’re staying at is right next door to the bus station where we will find our bus to take u – score! Since we are staying in Spain we need to remember our passports too!

60 minutes later we are walking across the runway. Where else can you do that?
If you know us this will be of no surprise – our first stop is the pub. Janelle ordered the club off the snack menu and was treated to the world’s largest sandwich! Me? Fish & chips of course.

Gibraltar’s cable car isn’t operational as it’s being retrofitted with larger cars to move lots of people to the top, so we grab a ‘Rock Tour Taxi’. £110 for the two of us and we’re joined by another couple – he’s from Scotland and she’s from BC. Canadians, we’re everywhere!
For the tour we are heading up to the tippy top and along the way we get to see several lookouts, caves where they hold concerts and the WW2 tunnels.

A surprise here are the ‘wild’ monkeys. It’s reported that they are the only wild monkeys within a city. Regardless, our taxi guide says they are mostly curious if you have peanuts or oranges for them. Aside from that they seemed to be harmless.

Fun fact: carving through the hard rock of Gibraltar was very slow going until they enlisted the help of Canadians! We brought our expertise drilling with diamond tipped bits and using water to keep dust down.

On the way back a deserved stop at one of the sweet shops on Main Street.
