Today’s ride is the longest of the week at just over 50kms. We depart Vela Luka at our scheduled 9am departure, then a coffee break somewhere along the way, to finish at Korčula where we’ll have lunch back onboard our ship.

During our ride there are olive trees, rows & rows of grapes, tractors, and just a few hills with views. Riding through this landscape is very distracting which makes it difficult to keep focusing on the road sometimes.

During the morning briefing we heard that we would be climbing a couple of hills today, but really nothing to worry about. There may have been a slight objection to the underselling of one particular hill.

But eventually we make it to Korčula and we all start swooning over the city below us. We waste little time cycling down the last part of the hill, park the bikes and have lunch. Everyone is itching to head into town!
One thing I’ve noticed on our travels here are the number of cats…well fed cats. Between the food dishes left out, gelato, and lunch scraps these felines are very happy and friendly. And now that I think about it, I haven’t seen one mouse anywhere! hmm
Before dinner they have organized us a guided tour through the city. Among the many tidbits we learn about this place is that they’re laying claim to have Marco Polo’s birthplace! Our guide tells us…sure they can’t prove he was born here, but neither can Venice!

As day turns to night this city gets a whole new vibe…and the wind picks up too. There are six of us that are looking to have a quick drink…and do we ever find the right spot. A repurposed guard tower turned into a cocktail bar overlooking the city and the water. Talk about having atmosphere – wowza!
Yes, you do have to climb the staircase, head inside then up the ladder to the top. So worth it

On the way back to our boat, we saw this sailboat in the harbour. It comes with a hot tub.
Maybe next year? yeah right..
