Rafting

We are in for a true adventure today! Our friends, Chris and Toni, signed up for a Multi Day Adventure Package and how could we refuse?? First up, rafting down the Cetina River. This is gonna be fun.

After getting outfitted with wetsuits (because the water is only about 16°C), life jackets (because the current is really strong), and helmets (because there is a whole lot of low hanging branches), the four of us pile into our raft with our amazing guide, Tony. He is experienced, strong, personable and a fantastic leader. We are in great hands.

It is a 10km trip down the river; that’s a lot of paddling for someone who often skips arm day in the gym. We are surrounded on either side of the river by lush greenery, dense bushes and trees and then the majestic cliffs just beyond that. It was quite magical. On top of that, the water was so clear, you could see to the bottom of the river. Incredible.

We faced some challenging rapids, but none that got the best of us. Tony said we were awesome paddlers, great listeners and followed instructions quickly and efficiently. I’m sure we were the best rafters he’s ever encountered. LOL.

There were a few predetermined stops along the way. The first one was just to have a break and do a bit of swimming. I’m sure this stop is much more appreciated when it is 25°C and sunny out. We swam, but we certainly didn’t breathe out a huge sigh of relief when we submerged ourselves into the water. Brrrr.

The next two stops were much more exciting – did we want to go under the freezing cold waterfall?? Of course we do! We were the only ones of all three boats that went for it. It was cold, it was strong (I was glad for the helmets!) and it was exhilarating. Just say yes!

Then came the cliff jumping. Woowee! We climbed up a 5 metre cliff then just jumped off. Into the air, hoping that we hit the right spot in the water, and hoping that it was deep enough. I thought the waterfall was exhilarating. This really got the adrenalin pumping. And even though I was ready for the impact of the water, I still lost my breath and couldn’t keep breathing out of my nose. So when I say I had freezing cold water rush up my nose all the way back to my brain, I mean it. The inside of my skull was cold. It was the weirdest sensation. Would I do it again? Absolutely!

This is day one of our 3 day adventure pack. I can’t wait to see what awaits us tomorrow!

Obrigada Porto, but it is time to move on.

We loved walking around Porto, the riverfront there is amazing, so lively and vibrant. It was bittersweet saying goodbye to it because it means that our time here in Portugal is drawing to a close (boo!) and there is still so much of the country that we want to see....
