It is starting to feel less like vacation and more like bootcamp! And we are LOVING every minute of it!! Jason and I are so committed (yes, committed!) to our sports that the touring and vacationing has definitely taken a back seat. With the mercury soaring to highs we’re not used to, we are usually weary and ready for sleep as soon as we finish dinner. It is exhausting being so great on the court, and so speedy on the bike. LOL.
Jason did a ton more drills today, just like yesterday, but with much more running and much more strategic ball play. Ever hear of the game Dingles? Me neither. If you want to have a good brain teaser, look it up and see if you can follow along with the rules. To say that Jason walks (limps?) off the court a hot mess would be very accurate. In fact, in his own words: “Even with the early start this morning my cap was dripping like I got caught in the rain. Ewwww.” I second the Ewwwww.
You’d think that would be the end of it, right? Nope. Today was the start of the the much anticipated competition. 2 more hours of play in the afternoon. That’s right, in the scorching hot afternoon sun. There was not enough water and electrolytes on the premises to keep up with the sweat loss. Again, ewwwww. His team of 4 played well. It is too early to predict if they’re in the running for first place, but maybe?
I got to go for a great ride again – a 72km loop. It was fantastic. Good roads, good weather, good scenery and I got to be in my own little world for 5 hours. I do have a question for any ecologists out there though…

Along the roads, many sections had snails attached to the fence posts, tree limbs and weeds. Not just one or two, either. Dozens. Sometimes there were so many on one limb that it was actually bent over. Does anybody know why this happens? Is it normal? How are they getting food off of a metal fence post? Are they sunning themselves? I am truly confused. Also, it wasn’t along every property, so do some people spray something to deter this? Is it harmful? So many questions for me to ponder while biking for those 5 hours.
Lucky for me, I was able to schedule myself a massage at the end of the day. Sometimes things just work out in your favour! Jason should really try to do the same. LOL. You know, so we can both have a bit of ‘vacation’ in our vacation.
