Ice Cream and Wine!

Ice Cream and Wine!

We are discovering that being in Mallorca is truly a different pace and way of life. We are both vacationing and tripping while here. Getting out ‘first thing in the morning’ here means leaving the hotel by 10:30 at the earliest. Nothing is open before then, and if you’re looking for lunch, well, it doesn’t start until 1:00pm. It is wonderful not to have to be up at the crack of dawn!

Our first destination was a five minute bike ride away to the Campanet Caves. We showed up just as the skies exploded with rain – great timing! The caves were spectacular. So many stalagmites, stalactites and cavernous spaces. A fantastic way to spend an hour.

We were determined today to get ice cream, so we started our ride into the town of Campanet. Dirt roads, rough roads and back lanes was the route we chose. We’re always up for an adventure, I guess! We did some pretty serious climbing but were rewarded in town with a plaza of restaurants. It took us no time at all to grab a table and order lunch and more importantly, ICE CREAM!

The one thing that can top ice cream is wine. Our next destination was 15 minutes away for a vineyard tour, wine tasting and small food pairings. We were very excited, even though it meant a whole lot more climbing. Thankfully the weather was cooperating and stayed overcast enough to make it bearable.

Can Gelat, the bodega, was stunning. The owner, Hilly, met us at the gate then proceeded to show us around the amazing grounds, speaking about the different grapes, their land and their plans for the future. It is a new vineyard; their first harvest happened in 2020. They produce 5 different wines and we got to try them all, a rose, two whites and two reds. We were so surprised that our favourite was one of the white wines – a Giro. Crazy good.

The ride back to the hotel was super fun. It was all downhill all the way and we flew! It was glorious. What a way to end the perfect day we just had. We truly loved how today unfolded, the perfect blend of busy and relaxing. Can we have more of these please??

Snorkeling the Silfra Fissure

The theme for today was water. This time though, not in the way of waterfalls. We woke up to gusting winds and torrential rains - oof. The drive to Silfra was exciting to say the least. Rain, rain, go away!! Walking from our car to the staging lot, we were soaking wet...

Hunting Waterfalls

Iceland: the land of fire and ice...and waterfalls! Somehow we are still impressed by water falling over cliffs. How can they be so alike and yet so different? It has been many days of oohing and aahing over waterfalls and here we are at day fifty still as giddy at...

Ice cream!

Ice cream!

Life is too short to go without ice cream and it seems like forever since we’ve had some. Not because we couldn’t find any - it’s just been too cold. And starting off the day it didn’t seem likely that we’d be looking for some as the clouds looked like they had...

Back home if we had a day like today, I would say that we were soooo busy. Here though, it feels like we had one of our quieter days. I've never felt Spirit of the West's lyrics, "I need home for a rest" more profoundly than today. Starting the day with a latte and a...

Iceberg – Dead Ahead!

A couple of hikes to kick the day off for us, then a zodiac ride to visit a glacier! The first one is going to take us to the foot of one of the 32 tongues of the glacier covering the top of Iceland. Turns out hike is a strong word for this one, from the parking lot...

For one day...does that seem like a lot? Not too many? Enough? I guess normally, I would say that at least half of them are garbage, doubles or throw aways. But not today. Each image is unique. Each image is amazing. Each image is a keeper. Crap. That is a lot of...

Back in the day I’d call our wake up time Oh-Dark- Thirty. However, it’s not very dark this morning at 3:30am where we are. And just like that, it’s time to say goodbye to Norway - the land of fjords and tunnels. It’s not very dark this morning We made it! Another...

With all the hiking we've been doing, our legs have been complaining and our arms have been feeling left out. Today we changed that. Kayaking in the Arctic means a lot of layers. A kayaking tour through the fjords was the perfect switch up for us. Our guide was from...
