Our time in Tanzania has been amazing. We have done and seen and experienced so much, it is hard to remember it all! But, like everything else, this too must come to an end. We are packed, we are fed, we are ready to continue our adventure. Denis comes to drive us to the airport.
We are getting used to the rigmarole that comes with African airports and navigate the extra security with ease. The flights themselves are so easy. A 40 minute flight to Dar Es Salam first in which they managed to serve everybody on board a drink. Then the 1.5 hour flight to Kigali where we got a drink and a hot snack. All of this service with a smile and a kind word too!
We made it to Rwanda, a brand new country. Going through customs was yet another new experience. The agent physically phoned the hotel we were staying at to check that we were, in fact, registered with them and that they were expecting us. Wow! That is next level security!
The place we are staying at is about 15 minutes away from the airport and we get to drive through a very busy part of Kigali. Wow! I don’t know what we were expecting, but this was not it. Kigali is a large city and it is so modern and clean. Large buildings, modern architecture, lights, parks, impeccable roads, and gorgeous infrastructure. The roads are packed with people, bikes, motorcycles (so many motorcycles!) and cars. This place is happening!
We gambled on our accommodation this evening, choosing a place that was $20 CAD/night. We crossed our fingers that it would be nice. Imagine our relief when we pulled up to this gorgeous mansion behind a gated entrance. Our room was large, clean and perfectly suitable. The only pitfall, and it is our fault for not checking, was that we had to share a bathroom with another room. Lucky for us we were the only ones in the house so the bathroom was all ours!
We can’t wait to explore this city.
