Korean adventure Day 8 (63km, 550m)

Uljin, South Korea | 2024
We woke up to rain this morning – Ugh. But it just meant that we were able to have a relaxing morning. Our pension hosts were so fun and engaged. She noticed I was hoarding the pickled cucumbers and veggies (don’t judge, they were so good!) so she went and got me a large container of them. I wanted a picture of her and she made me wait until she put on lipstick.

I cheated again today and got dropped off at the 14km mark, essentially shaving off 250m of climbing. That being said, I still got my fair share. I don’t even feel guilty. Today was all about riding and we did a ton of it. 65 km and almost 600 meters of elevation is what I clocked. That’s a lot. Well, it’s enough.

I learned that zig-zagging uphill helps a ton and that I should take the speed when it is offered. I have now embraced the downhill. I should mention that granny gear and I are now besties.
Not only is the scenery amazing, but there is so much art everywhere we go. Barricades are painted, tide breaks are painted, there are sculptures and installations all over the towns, the streets and the beaches. Even a bridge is not just a bridge. If there is a spot, there is art. The Koreans are very proactive in supporting local artists.

We came upon the Korean famous Candle rock and stopped to get a picture. You can also see the amazing condition of the bike paths we are riding in this section. It helps to offset the climbing.
Our hotel is fantastic and I wolfed down dinner so fast there wasn’t even time for a picture. I am going to sleep so well tonight.
