Our last day on the bike. Bittersweet. Our butts are very grateful. Our lust for open air, fun downhill glides and moderate physical activity will have to wait for the next adventure, I guess. In 9 days (28 hours and 38 minutes, to be exact) we rode 484 kilometers and climbed 2680 meters. Not a small feat. Would we recommend the Kattegatteledon to others? Absolutely. But, maybe go north to south and take advantage of the tailwinds.

Gothenburg greeted us warmly, but with a pile of laundry that needed to be taken care of. Guess where our afternoon went. Ah well, the weather was starting to turn anyway.

Also…we wanted to be well rested and prepared for tonight’s excursion. We got tickets to the Andre Rieu concert!! Time to clean the grime of the bike trails off of us and get gussied up for a formal concert. And by gussied up, I mean clean clothes that may or may not be wrinkled and that can serve another purpose down the line. We must have forgotten to pack our gown and tux. Whoops.

I don’t think we can stress this enough. If you have the chance to go see this genius live in concert, you must do it!! Easily one of the top 5 shows we’ve ever seen. We danced. We sang. We clapped. We cried. We laughed. We laughed some more. We were completely enraptured for 2.5 hours.

This guy knows what his audience wants and he delivers. It is a very well choreographed performance, meant to seem off the cuff and improvised. The camera men are perfectly timed with the orchestra, and each person knows their role. 100% entertaining the whole time.

They entered the stage to circus music, we sang Sweet Caroline, we waltzed to The Blue Danube, watched as a whole section got snowed on – and then the blizzard hit, balloons were dropped from the ceiling, they were drinking champagne as they sang and played. It wasn’t all fun and games though. There were very serious pieces intertwined – a dedication to Ukraine with a traditional song, a soprano solo that was extremely emotional, a spotlight on a pan flutist born without hands.
We walked away in complete awe. Go see this guy. Seriously. You won’t regret it.
