A Day at the Spa is Exhausting

The tennis racquet is put away and the final goodbyes have been said. It’s now time for us to hit the spa in Erding.

This place is massive! Basically split into two halves – the first side is for families with water slides, pizza, and a food court. The other side is only for adults.

We pick the second option, and like the old guy said, we chose wisely.

We have pools, pool bars, restaurants, sushi, Thai curry, loungers inside, loungers outside, and saunas…there are so many saunas around this place it’s impossible to know which one is what. Fortunately they provide a map with timetable!

They host events in their saunas all day long. There are scented events, music events, or the straight forward ‘let’s see how hot we can make it’.

Throw in a couple of massages plus dinner and we are done. Killer day!

Not many pics today – they frown on that in the spa.

Arm Day

Arm Day

With all the hiking we've been doing, our legs have been complaining and our arms have been feeling left out. Today we changed that. Kayaking in the Arctic means a lot of layers. A kayaking tour through the fjords was the perfect switch up for us. Our guide was from...

Dinner with Odin

Dinner with Odin

Tonight we’re eating with the Vikings and their gods Odin, Thor and the twins, Freyr & Freyja. But first, there’s a mountain to climb. Offersøykammen, a hike that should take us no more to an 3 hours, but with over 450m of elevation gain in less than 4km…this...

Cinnamon Buns, Dog Scritches and Vikings

Well, it was a rainy day today. Luckily there were no hikes scheduled. Phew. Truth be told, I'm not sure our quads could have taken another hike today... That is a sky you don't want to be hiking under! Ooh...starting to clear up a little bit, now we can actually see...

What – is there something on my head?

What an fantastic adventure today, Sea Eagle feeding! We have for us a 2 hour boat ride out into the waters surrounding Svolvær. But first we don our wet and wind weather gear, basically everything one needs for snowmobiling we are putting on. It’s mid-July for crying...

We have the memory…not the picture.

We have the memory…not the picture.

We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world and the beauty of the Lofoten Islands comes in a very close second. The landscape just begs to be explored. How could we refuse? Would you expect it to be so green at 68.2 degrees north? We certainly didn't....

North of 70

North of 70

We are leaving Finland this morning with so many fond memories that we’ll have forever. So it is with mixed feelings that we board our flight back to Norway. This time to Tromsø, Norway. 70°N latitude (or pretty close) for you nerds out there. This is the furthest...

Our last day in Finland gets us to the Arctic Circle (brrr) and Santa's Village. I know, I know, we're not at THE North Pole, but I could be convinced that this really is Santa's Village. Or maybe it is just his summer home. If this is Santa's summer getaway...he must...

Reindeer on the road

Reindeer on the road

Still basking in the glow of yesterday’s race, we start heading up the road again. This has all the hallmarks of one hell of a Korean horror movie Our first pit stop is a roadside art exhibit called The Silent People. About a thousand ‘peat-headed characters’ in a...

Not last!!!

Not last!!!

As you likely already know...we did a thing. Like entered a young person's competition. What on earth were we thinking? Finland's Wife Carrying Championship...ready or not...here we come. (Disclaimer: we do not have any footage of our race...yet. It was live streamed...

What have we gotten ourselves into?

What have we gotten ourselves into?

Our day starts off slowly today with a visit to the local Heritage Park. A collection of buildings and dwellings found in the surrounding communities brought together. We are here early enough in the season that we have two private guides, one who just started 3 days...

Pretty easy day for us today…it is a holiday for crying out loud. Beautiful way to start today at the lake The road warrior! We are going to go check out the local gorge. The Orinoco Gorge is said to have been formed almost 12,000 years ago during the last Ice Age....

Hiking and Camping???

Hiking and Camping???

Okay...but in the loosest way possible. You know us. We barely hike and we certainly don't camp. So the fact that today had a surprise hike (and we weren't even a bit phased by it, or upset) and that we ended up in a campground...well...who the heck are we?? This is...

Fortresses, Fresh Noodles & Finnish Saunas

A nice slow start to our day today as we didn’t crack the door to outside until noon. Sometimes you need these days and this was one of those days. It allowed us to recharge ourselves for exploration, to get set to see Suomenlinna or Sveaborg. It’s the fortress at the...
