Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Feels weird heading back to the airport, but today is a travel day to Beaulieu-sur-Mer – just outside of Nice. Not part of Nice like we originally thought. Nope. Completely different town. Not in the Nice region at all. Spoiler alert, this would have been good to know while we were figuring out our train tickets…

Nevertheless.

First a pain free drop off at Enterprise. The staff at Enterprise really made things easy for us during our visit. From moving our reservation to a more convenient location to swapping vehicles halfway through the rental and then today with a hassle free return. 5 stars! They managed to go above and beyond with each step.

Our first time flying EasyJet, I guess I expected worse. A pretty straightforward, no frills experience. Three of the very best stars.

Then things came off the rails (pun intended!) when it came time to travel from the Nice airport to our VRBO in Beaulieu-sur-Mer. First, I think I almost got pickpocketed in the elevator up from the tram up to the train platform. Don’t worry, nothing actually went missing, but I’m pretty sure they tried!

Then I guess we purchased the wrong type of ticket for our journey. Silly us, we thought we bought the return rail fare…this fare, however, was ONLY for the tram, not the train. Grrrr. We are now on the train, and no longer in Nice. The 5 transit police (one of them sized as if Hulk Hogan & Andre the Giant had a love child) were there with the POS device ready to receive our €100 fine. I was not happy, this is not a good start to our week in France!! Ugh. Tourist Tax at its finest.

I did get to witness the French attitude come out of Janelle…that was fantastic.

Luckily, our VRBO is mere steps away from the train station and Agnes met us there with a smile. She proudly showed us ‘around’ the suite and wished us a great stay. We will be happy here, for sure. The best part? We are spitting distance to the tennis courts. Seriously, it took us longer to get to the courts at the Nadal Center, and we were staying on the actual property!

Our dinner options were limited, being Sunday in France, so we went to the one brasserie open, along with the rest of the tourist population and had a really nice meal. As we were waiting for our very decadent, very ooey-gooey, very sinful chocolate dessert, we also managed to play a game or two of Cribbage. Even with a pretty impressive hand, Jason failed to pull out a win! LOL.

Vive la France! Now, to find some more wine, some cheese and a beautiful baguette. Stay tuned.

Our last day in Finland gets us to the Arctic Circle (brrr) and Santa's Village. I know, I know, we're not at THE North Pole, but I could be convinced that this really is Santa's Village. Or maybe it is just his summer home. If this is Santa's summer getaway...he must...

Hiking and Camping???

Okay...but in the loosest way possible. You know us. We barely hike and we certainly don't camp. So the fact that today had a surprise hike (and we weren't even a bit phased by it, or upset) and that we ended up in a campground...well...who the heck are we?? This is...
