Time to leave the north and have a serine coastal drive. It’s quite nice – meandering down the coast – small coastal towns, harbours, mountains on one side and the sea on the other.
If we could just get around this bus!

And in only 3.5 hours later we are in the town of Nin visiting their salt farm? Plantation? Field? I’m not sure what to call it. The next hour we spend exploring the area with their audio guide that’s telling us their Story of Salt

From April to September they flood their fields with sea water, then depending on wind & sun they’ll have salt to harvest a mere 10 days later! And like 6 different grades for different purposes. There’s one for salting meat & fish, another for the bath, and of course the best grade (Flower of Salt) that is only found in Nin.

In Zadar we find more Roman ruins, churches and city walls.

Marco?!

Plus, a sea organ. What is a sea organ you ask…it is several pipes installed underwater by the promenade where you get to sit and listen to the music created by the movement of the water. Funny, it got very loud as the waves reached shore from a passing ferry.
It’s quite cool and we’re surprised that this is the only one we’ve ever come across.

Before blasting off from Zadar, Janelle drags me into an underwater archeological museum. The explorers where they Scuba dive for treasure. Pretty impressive, though I’m not sure if I’d sign-up to do it.
