At dawn, we sailed to our second last island of our tour, Miljet, for our fifth ride in a row. I feel like I can confidently say that these islands are quite hilly. Nah…I would say really hilly. Really, really hilly. Luckily for us, they are also absolutely beautiful. They are somehow all the same and all so very different.

Miljet is half covered by a national park that is protected and respected by locals and tourists alike. There are two ‘lakes’ that are joined by a small channel of water. As each lake is actually an extension of the Adriatic Sea, they fluctuate with the tides. They are so secluded and protected that many scuba divers and nature enthusiasts come here to see the huge variety of sea life.

Jason and I stuck together for most of the ride today. The bulk of the pack stayed a good kilometer ahead of us – climbing those hills man, it is like slamming on the brakes for us gravel bikers! We sure do get a proper workout though! I also think we are having more fun. Right??
The boat met us on the other side of the island, after a mere 33km and 740m of climbing. It was a very welcome sight. The icing on the cake? Lunch was waiting for us and we got to eat and relax for a bit while we sailed to a much smaller island, Šipan.
Here, the weather was (kind of) cooperative and we got to go swimming! A quick walk down the promenade to the beach, which was deserted, and most of us jumped in the water. The water was perfection. The air temp was not. It was so windy that we didn’t want to get out of the water. But we had to. We survived.
Island life is pretty easy to get used to!
