It doesn’t matter how good your sleep was, when you wake up to a text that looks like this:
your heartrate sky rockets and your once restful self disappears. Apparently our dog, who is being looked after by our daughter, disagreed with being kept in his crate in a room while she was gone for a couple of hours. Yep, he destroyed his crate, the door and the carpet. What a *cutie*. I guess we have some renovations to look forward to when we get back!
But, back to our amazing trip. This morning’s adventure brought me to Porto Cristo. I asked BikeMap to find me a suitable route and off I went. It was great…until I turned onto a very back road. Nope, I was not going to bike through that! I ended up walking my bike for a couple of kilometers through crazy rocky terrain, thick gravel and very sketchy dirt roads. I was very happy when I reached pavement again!
In Porto Cristo, I knew I would only have about 30 minutes before having to turn back so I chose a destination just along the coast. I would have made it too, except for the stairs that led to a very narrow, tree covered, root filled path. Carrying my bike down the stairs was the easy part; finding the teeny pathway and then having to ride it on the road bike? That was not going to happen. I aborted my mission.
Instead, I enjoyed my ride back to the Nadal Center. I could really get used to riding around this island – as long as I have my road bike and as long as I learn how to dodge all the gravel roads!
While I was navigating traffic circles and dirt roads, Jason was busy sweating away again on the courts. These two hour lessons are intense and he comes away from them drenched, exhausted, weary and so satisfied. He is in his happy place here, that is for sure.
Lunch was at a fantastic restaurant, Terragust. The concept here is farm to table where everything is either grown on the property or locally sourced. Our meal was truly a divine experience.
For the afternoon, Jason and I decided to check out the Drach caves. The caves themselves were, of course, spectacular. However, there were so many people (hundreds!) that it was really hard to enjoy them, especially after having just enjoyed the caves in Campanet where we were basically alone. All of a sudden, we were in a large cavernous area filled with benches overlooking a lake. Hmmm. What is happening here? There must have been 300-400 people sitting there waiting patiently.
Turns out, we were going to be treated to a show. The lights went out, we were in complete darkness and then a row boat, all lit up with twinkle lights, floated on the lake with a 4-piece orchestra onboard. They put on a miniature concert for us. That was so special. It was so peaceful and romantic. Absolutely beautiful. That made putting up with all those people worth it!! But no pictures allowed. 🙁
To end our excursion, we did a bit of shopping along the promenade. Jason was in dire need of some new, fashionable shorts. I think we ended up doing okay. It didn’t hurt that we also got to see Rafa’s house and Catamaran across the bay.
