The early shift today with an 8:30 start. This means a bit of a reprieve from the late morning’s heat. Well, until the sun crests the nearby roof anyways.

Today was all about the volley. Volleys near the net, volleys from the service line and volleys to make that very important approach shot. The instruction here is World Class, they explain what the drills are clearly, and then are very patient with us students to finally get it right…ish.
Turns out, my overhead smash left me today. Frustrating, hopefully it finds me again tomorrow.
We are doing all of this training on red clay courts too! I never thought there’d be that much of a difference when playing on different surfaces. Clay is softer than a hard court, which means the ball doesn’t bounce as much so it does mean more running on our part – plus you get to slide further which makes you look like an rock star! They do say that clay is more forgiving on the body long term, I say it’s fun!
The downside is that the clay gets everywhere…the pocket where you put the extra ball, it mixes well with sweat and never dusts off – don’t get me started on my shoes!
