This is a bit of a conundrum for us. The Safari we booked includes a few days at a resort in Zanzibar. Sounds great, right? Except we’re not sure we would appreciate the ‘down’ time on a resort. So, we were able to reduce our stay from 4 days down to 2 days. It still feels a bit weird taking a vacation in the middle of our trip. Seriously, this is a trip. Go! Go! Go! It is hard to tap the brakes, especially since we are just getting going. Jet-lag is gone, we are in the throws of busy; lazy days are not what we are looking for.
So, we adjust our headspace and decide it is probably a really good idea to take a couple days of rest before we embark on the rest of our journey. Fine, if we must, I suppose we can sit by a pool, lounge in the sun and drink margaritas. Fine. We shall do it. It’s for a good cause. Our life is so hard.

First though, there is something very important that has to be done! It must be understand first though, that we are NOT beach people – at all. But, we absolutely must at least dip our toes into the ocean. Why? Well, it is the last ocean on the list. The Indian Ocean? Check. Now we have officially had at least one body part in each ocean of the world. To be fair, this ocean was very warm, so I even had a bit of a real swim. Glorious. Until I got out and had to contend with the sand. Ugh. I really am a wuss.
Now it is time to find some pool loungers and talk to the bartender about some fruity drinks. We get comfortable, ready to relax and do nothing. Unfortunately, the world had other ideas for us. The skies opened up and we had to run for cover. The umbrella shading our chairs was no match for the rain coming down. <sigh>
Luckily, our room is on the ground level and out covered patio faces the pool bar. We are easily able to catch the bartender’s eye and he is more than happy to deliver us drinks right to our patio. Now this is vacation! Not only are we able to enjoy the pouring rain from the cover of our patio, but we are able to get some ‘work’ done while drinks get delivered right to us. Again, it’s a tough life.
We can appreciate why, especially during the high season, this is THE place to come for a beach holiday. It is gorgeous, the amenities are endless, the food is amazing (huge shoutout to the chocolate desserts!), the ocean water is clear and blue and WARM, the pool is big and the bartender is mere steps away from you. If it wasn’t so far away from home, I could see us having a true vacation here in resort land, Zanzibar.
